Founded in 1987, The Detroit Chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM) is primarily a professional society for senior/chief information officers who have significant leadership responsibility in corporations or business units, government entities, and not-for-profit organizations.

The Detroit SIM meets five times per year to discuss topics of interest to CIOs and their direct reports. Most of the programs include regionally or national known speakers and provide time for member to discuss common problems and potential solutions. These meetings also provided an opportunity to make a contribution toward improvement of the I/S profession.
